Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Environment and Forestry Ministry is coordinating with various parties to make minimal waste generation during the Eid al-Fitr exodus a part of the national exodus program and improve waste reduction awareness.

"We are hoping for cooperation with other ministries and institutions that handle issues related to the Eid exodus," the ministry's director general of waste, garbage, and hazardous toxic material management, Rosa Vivien Ratnawati, said at a press conference here on Friday.

She explained that the issue of increased waste generation during the Eid exodus will be affected by factors that support the running of the exodus itself, including transportation and facilities used by exodus travelers.

To this end, coordination with other ministries and institutions such as the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Communication and Informatics is continuing to be carried out to disseminate information on waste management by public facility managers and the public.

At the press conference, director of waste handling at the ministry, Novrizal Tahar, said that the waste handling efforts are targeted at public transportation as well as departure points of exodus travelers, such as terminals and stations as well as roads used by travelers, including toll roads.

Thus, the participation of other parties can help the Environment and Forestry Ministry to promote efforts to cut waste during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period.

The Ministry of Environment and Forestry has projected potential waste generation of 58 million kilograms during the 2024 Eid al-Fitr exodus and return period. Around 193.6 million people are likely to participate in the exodus, based on the Ministry of Transportation's estimate.

"We do not only target the public but also other institutions that make the issue of minimal waste an important issue in the context of Eid exodus," Tahar added.
