"The Panua Pohuwato Airport will be inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on Monday (April 22)," Minister Sumadi noted in a press statement received in Jakarta.
During his visit to the airport, the minister inspected the arrival terminals and some facilities, such as waiting rooms and check-in lockets.
The Panua Pohuwato Airport hosts a runway that stretches 1,200 meters x 30 meters, a taxiway of 15 m x 170 m in length, a 110 m x 70 m-long apron, and a terminal building covering 990 square meters of land.
Its runway enables the airport to accommodate ATR 72-600 aircraft, which has a capacity of 72 passengers.
Sumadi noted that on February 18 this year, the Panua Pohuwato Airport accommodated a pioneer round trip flight by a DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft operated by SAMS Air on the Gorontalo-Pohuwato-Palu route.
"The presence of Panua Pohuwato Airport is expected to help Pohuwato District tap into its potentials, such as mining, plantation, fishery, and tourism," he remarked.
Pohuwato District Head Saipul A. Mbuinga and several officials from the Transportation Ministry accompanied Minister Sumadi during his inspection.
Meanwhile, President Jokowi landed at the Djalaluddin Airport, Gorontalo District, at 3:50 p.m. local time.
Gorontalo Acting Governor Ismail Pakaya noted that the head of state is planning to inaugurate a regional road and participate in a corn harvesting activity in addition to inaugurating the airport during his two-day working visit to the region.
The president will also head to Bone Bolango District to inspect Toto Kabila Regional Public Hospital and Bulango Ulu Dam, he added.
