Jakarta (ANTARA) - Electricity supply and communication services are still disrupted in several parts of Musi Rawas Utara (Muratara) district, South Sumatra, due to the week-long flooding in the area, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said on Wednesday.

The impact of the power supply disruption continues to be felt by those residing in Karang Jaya, Rupit, and Karang Dapo sub-districts, head of the agency's data center, information, and communication division, Abdul Muhari, informed in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The flash floods that inundated the areas following rains on April 16, 2024, also disrupted telecommunication networks in Karang Dapo and Rawas Ilir sub-districts, Muhari said.

A team of disaster response personnel reported the disruptions in electricity and telecommunication services to the related agencies as the disruptions were impeding disaster mitigation efforts, he added.

The BNPB is coordinating with the district administration and related agencies to promptly repair power supply and telecommunication networks, he informed.

"The floodwaters have started to recede since last night so that the immediate repair is needed to encourage displaced residents to begin cleaning up their houses," he said.

The BNPB reported that the flooding claimed the lives of three residents of Karang Jaya sub-district and one resident of Ulu Rawas sub-district.

It also submerged 2,839 houses and damaged six bridges, five houses of worship, and 10 public health facilities.

At least 51,812 residents were displaced and forced to take refuge due to the flood, he informed.
