Bandung (ANTARA) - At least 267 houses were reportedly affected by the 6.2-magnitude earthquake that rattled Garut District, West Java Province, on Saturday (April 27) evening, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) stated.

"As of Monday at 4 a.m. local time, we have recorded 267 affected houses in total," Head of BNPB's Center for Disaster Data, Information, and Communication, Abdul Muhari, noted in the agency's statement received in Bandung on Monday.

Muhari remarked that the regional disaster mitigation agencies (BPBDs) of quake-hit regions had been working to assess the extent of damage and identify other impacts of the earthquake.

According to Muhari, the BNPB has registered eight severely damaged houses, 56 houses with medium-level damage, and 191 mildly damaged houses. He also revealed that another 12 houses were affected, albeit not providing any details on the level of the damage.

"Regarding the houses that are simply declared affected, the BNPB is still awaiting more detailed information from BPBDs," he revealed.

The official further noted that 51 out of the 267 affected houses were identified in Bandung District, 46 houses in Ciamis District, 42 houses in Garut District, 24 houses in Tasikmalaya City, 21 houses in Tasikmalaya District, and 17 houses in Sukabumi District.

After concluding the damage assessment, he stated that BPBDs of West Java and affected districts and cities would immediately take measures to restore public facilities, clean up the environment from debris, and repair the affected houses.

He further noted that based on BPBD's reports, the earthquake also injured 11 people and damaged various public facilities, such as houses of worship, schools, offices, and medical facilities.

"We have yet to receive reports on casualties following the 6.2-magnitude earthquake," he concluded.
