The ministry's Director General of Intellectual Property, Min Usihen, noted that the use of intellectual property is important, so that women MSME players can add value to the products they sell, increase economic growth, create jobs, and boost welfare.
"Through this seminar, we hope more women would improve their knowledge of intellectual property," she remarked at a webinar titled "Women Work, Brilliant Indonesia" followed online on Tuesday.
According to data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) in 2021, out of a total of 65 million MSMEs in Indonesia, 64.5 percent are run or owned by women.
In this regard, she commended the hard work of women MSME players in Indonesia. However, of the large number of women-owned MSMEs in the country, the number of women, who participate in the intellectual property system, is still low.
"It means, there are still very few Indonesian women who benefit from intellectual property," she remarked.
She affirmed that the government continues to provide space for women to play an active role and participate in overseeing development in all fields to carry out the mandate of the Constitution.
Usihen further echoed the government's commitment to continue to encourage the creativity and innovation of Indonesian women in accordance with the third principle of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely no one left behind.
She said the principle ensures that the SDGs must involve all stakeholders and benefit everyone.
She commended the initiatives and efforts of all parties who continue to encourage women's creativity and innovation as well as the protection of intellectual property.
"We are looking forward to the consistency and presence of more roles of women, including women creative economy actors, to create a brilliant Indonesia, free from poverty, inequality, and backwardness," she affirmed.
