Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chief of National Police (Polri), Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, has appointed the President of the Confederation of All Indonesian Workers' Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea, as his expert staff member for the manpower sector.

During the May Day celebration event in Jakarta on Wednesday, Listyo said that he selected Andi Gani to assist him in resolving issues faced by workers.

"The leaders of the KSPSI and workers' unions also agreed to designate Andi Gani as the expert staff in the field of manpower," he remarked.

Listyo noted that Andi Gani's appointment was based on the outcomes of meetings between Polri and workers' unions.

"The confederation and Polri have agreed to continue to oversee labor issues and to fight for workers' rights," he stated.

He affirmed that Polri will persist in advocating for workers' rights. This effort has been successful and will continue to address other challenges, including disputes.

Listyo said that this effort follows an organized approach to champion workers' rights.

He also stated that ensuring public security and order can contribute to economic growth.

Indonesia's economy grew by 5 percent in 2023, attracting investments of Rp1,400 trillion (around US$86.14 billion) and generating 1.8 million new jobs.

He also recognized the role of workers in maintaining security and order within the community.

Polri also strives to safeguard migrant workers abroad.

"We extend the same protection to migrant workers," Listyo asserted.

He said that Polri continues to collaborate with relevant stakeholders abroad, developing police attachés to ensure the well-being of Indonesian migrant workers, who may encounter legal challenges, fraud, abuse, and other issues.
