"We are currently drafting a PP regarding awards for athletes, currently being processed at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham), it will be promulgated in a short time," assistant deputy for sports achievement improvement at the coordinating ministry, Budi Prasetyo, said here Monday.
In particular, there is a possibility that Olympians will provided pension funds like veterans, but their value is still being discussed and has not been determined with certainty, Prasetyo disclosed.
"Especially for Olympians, they will be given pensions like veterans," he stated.
He also highlighted the importance of financial literacy among Indonesian athletes, considering that bonuses are usually given immediately in large sums, which makes training on managing finances necessary.
"So, before they are given a bonus, they will be given financial management training," he said.
"There are those who say that bonus is not given all at once, but is given in stages over the next year, but now the profits and losses are still being calculated," he added.
He informed that the government is aware that Olympic bonuses in Indonesia are large compared to Japan or Korea, but because they are given directly, athletes need to cultivate the ability to manage them so that they do not face difficulties after retirement.
"The government is aware that in fact the bonus from the Olympics, Indonesia is one of the largest compared to Japan or Korea, but it is given directly (to athletes)," he said.He added that even though the total bonus is Rp3.5 billion, it can run out quickly if athletes do not know how to manage money well.
"When the money runs out, they will find it difficult to live since they don't work in their old age," he explained.
Meanwhile, acting deputy for coordination of Mental Revolution, cultural advancement, and sports achievement, Aris Darmansyah, said that achievements in the field of sports must help create a culture of sportsmanship in society.
"Apart from sports achievements, a culture of sportsmanship must be created. We have a big design for national sports, which has been determined by the presidential decree, what will it be like in 2045," Darmansyah added.
Presidential Regulation Number 86 of 2021 concerning the Grand Design of National Sports (DBON) lays down three focus areas to advance sports, namely sports achievements, education, and society.
