Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) is executing intelligence operations in Bali and buffer zones, including West Nusa Tenggara and East Java, to secure the holding of the 10th World Water Forum scheduled on May 18-25.

BNPT's Deputy for Law, Public Relations, and Information Technology Tjandra Sulistyono stated that the agency had held a series of coordination meetings on intelligence and had been in collaboration with stakeholders to ensure the smooth running of the forum.

"The BNPT has been collaborating with various stakeholders to detect potential threats in a bid to make the 10th World Water Forum a safely and smoothly running event," he told ANTARA when contacted in Jakarta on Saturday.

Sulistyono highlighted that his office is conducting cyber patrols on social media to screen indications of threats and conducting an operation aimed at providing guidance to former terrorists who have served their jail terms.

"That activity (guidance) is meant to prevent the recurrence of crimes of terror," he explained.

He further elaborated on the operation, saying that it aims to reach four goals, with one of them being the deradicalization of former terrorists and also people exposed to radical ideas in Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Java, and South Sulawesi.

The second goal of the operation concerns the strengthening of religious and nationalism outlooks of the targeted people. Thirdly, the operation is meant to encourage those people to run businesses.

"The fourth goal is to monitor the targeted people while paying attention to geographical, sociological, and ideological aspects," he concluded.

Presidential Decree No. 13 of 2023 concerning the National Organizing Committee of the 10th World Water Forum stipulates that the BNPT is responsible for dealing with security and health aspects.

Bali Province will host this year's World Water Forum that will adopt "Water For Shared Prosperity" as its grand theme.
