Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Transportation Ministry is striving to improve the security and smooth transportation of people and goods on international flights.

The ministry’s Director of Aviation Security, Budhi Kresna Direk, noted in the ministry’s statement received here on Saturday that one of the efforts to strengthen the security and smoothness of international flights was by holding a meeting with the National Air Facilitation Committee (Komnas FAL).

"The task of the National Air Facilitation Committee is to coordinate with the airports to ensure the smoothness of people and goods mobility to improve the security and smoothness of international flights," Direk remarked.

He highlighted that the Komnas FAL meeting is a routine agenda that is carried out annually and involves ministries and agencies, such as the Law and Human Rights Ministry, the Health Ministry, the Ministry of Agriculture, and other aviation stakeholders, such as Customs and Excise.

Furthermore, the meeting involves the immigration, quarantine office, international airport operators, and air freight operators that serve international flights.

He affirmed that some of the issues discussed at the meeting were related to aviation issues, such as the ICAO USAP-CMA audit agenda in Indonesia that is scheduled for June 24, 2024, with on-site observations at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang and Juanda Airport in Surabaya.

In addition, he remarked that the meeting discussed health quarantine procedures as well as immigration check facilities and infrastructure.

He also highlighted the plan for document examination of Hajj pilgrims to begin at embarkation airports in Indonesia in 2025.

"The results of the Komnas FAL meeting will be reported to the Minister of Transportation (Budi Karya Sumadi)," Direk stated.
