"I highly praise the first university, namely Gunadarma University, that is being built in the Nusantara capital city," he said at the groundbreaking of the building at IKN, which was followed on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel here on Tuesday.
He highlighted that educational facilities at the elementary, junior high, high school, and university levels are needed by Nusantara residents.
Before launching the groundbreaking of Gunadarma University, he did the same for Al Azhar Summarecon Elementary, Junior High, and High School.
He expressed the hope that IKN residents who wish to pursue the international doctoral program will study at the university as it is partnering with varsities in other countries.
"Later, they will establish international doctoral programs in collaboration with universities in France, Slovakia, Sweden, and so on. This will make our human resources to have good quality," Widodo said.
It is hoped that the quality of human resources in Nusantara would improve with the help of educational facilities amid fierce competition for human resources between countries, he added.
He said he believes that the construction of Gunadarma University would help improve, increase, and develop human resources in Indonesia, especially in East Kalimantan and even, Kalimantan Island.
"By saying in the name of God, this afternoon the construction of the International Doctoral Program campus building of Gunadarma University has officially begun," the President declared while closing his remarks.
The Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN) earlier compiled an IKN education road map to realize world-class education in Indonesia by 2045.
The road map prioritizes a digital approach that enables a flexible learning process, which is not limited by space and time and is more adaptive and inclusive, thereby improving human resources.
