Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Papua Development Acceleration Master Plan (RIPPP) for 2022–2041 can help the government expedite human development in the country's most eastern region in the next two decades, the Ministry of National Development Planning (PPN) stated.

The RIPPP was launched by Vice President Ma'ruf Amin and PPN Minister Suharso Monoarfa in Sorong, Southwest Papua, on Friday.

"The RIPPP envisions Papua as a self-reliant, fair, and prosperous region and aims for the actualization of a healthy, smart, and productive Papua," said Tri Dewi Virgiyanti, the ministry's Deputy for Development, in a statement on Saturday.

She expressed belief that by referring to the RIPPP as a guideline for development, the government would be able to accelerate development in Papua, which is seen as a crucial step towards achieving the goals of the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.

She remarked that in order to actualize a healthy Papua, all stakeholders should provide quality health services equitably and steer Papuan people towards leading a healthy and clean lifestyle.

Through this approach, she said that provinces in Papua would experience a decrease in their stunting prevalence to below 10 percent, increase their people's life expectancy, and eliminate malaria cases by the year 2041.

Regarding the mission to realize a smart Papua, Virgiyanti emphasized the importance of quality education services to produce superior, creative, innovative, and collaborative talents that have strong character.

She affirmed that a higher quality of education would help the government boost the school life expectancy in Papua to 14.59–16.1 years by 2041.

She emphasized the need to enhance the competency, creativity, and competitiveness of Papuan business actors to make Papua a productive region.

In this regard, the rates of poverty and open unemployment in the region are expected to decline to 5.81–2.82 percent and 4.11–1.73 percent, respectively, she said.

Meanwhile, Otto Ihalauw, a representative from Southwest Papua on the Papua Special Autonomy Development Acceleration Steering Committee (BP3OKP), underscored the importance of concrete measures to follow-up on the RIPPP and address skepticism among people over the master plan.
