At the meeting, Prabowo stated that Jordan is currently Indonesia's most active partner in jointly fighting for the independence of the Palestinian people, especially given the threat of Israeli military aggression in Gaza.
"The Indonesian government is also continuing to monitor the worsening developments in Gaza closely," he told King Abdullah II during their meeting in Amman, Jordan, on Monday (June 10), as quoted from the official statement from his office on Tuesday.
Moreover, Indonesia is concerned about the current crisis, especially seeing the increasing number of victims every day, the minister remarked.
King Abdullah II then agreed with Prabowo and thanked him for his presence at a summit regarding Gaza in Amman, Jordan, on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, Prabowo was scheduled to represent Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to discuss the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The summit was held on the initiative of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sissi, King Abdullah II, and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Gutteres.
"This conference was held in regard to the call for a ceasefire in Gaza to enable heads of state to identify ways to strengthen the international community's response to the ongoing humanitarian disaster in Gaza," Head of the Public Relations Bureau of the Secretariat General of the Indonesian Defense Ministry, Brigadier General Edwin Adrian Sumantha, remarked on Tuesday.
The summit raised the theme of "Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza."
"Indonesia's presence at this summit is expected to make a real contribution to joint efforts to overcome the humanitarian crisis in Gaza," Sumantha stated.
On a separate occasion, Prabowo said he planned to make the most of the summit to offer assistance from Indonesia, including peacekeeping troops, field hospitals, and health workers, as well as support for the evacuation of victims.
"I will coordinate with the UN Secretariat General and the leaders of regional countries to allow us to deploy our assistance," he remarked on June 7.
He also emphasized Indonesia's position regarding conflict resolution in Gaza that should be carried out with ceasefire and negotiation.
"Indonesia supports the independence of the Palestinian people, supports a two-state solution, and supports all efforts for an immediate ceasefire," he affirmed.
At the summit in Jordan, several countries, including Australia, sent representatives to sit together to discuss a ceasefire strategy in Gaza.
Pope Francis of the Vatican also expressed his support for the summit in Jordan. He thanked the Egyptian President, the Jordanian King, and the UN Secretary-General for their ideas and called the summit "an important initiative." (INE)
