Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Hadi Tjahjanto, has agreed to involve the Information Commission (KI) in policy-making to support public information disclosure, chairperson of the Central KI, Donny Yoesgiantoro, said on Tuesday.

"The Central KI wants to be involved in every public policy or regulation-making process, so that we are not only tasked with delivering public service or limited to resolving public information disputes," he said after opening a KI coordination meeting in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan.

Yoesgiantoro said that Minister Tjahjanto has encouraged the KI to enter the realm of public policy-making, so the meeting, which is being held until June 13, may result in several recommendations.

According to Yoesgiantoro, the Coordinating Ministry of Political, Legal, and Security Affairs aims to strengthen the role of state agencies, especially those whose work affects the lives of many people, in terms of information disclosure.

For instance, it is important to realize information openness at public agencies in the defense and security sector because it concerns the public interest.

Yoesgiantoro added that information disclosure in policy-making is a fundamental pillar for realizing democratic principles.

However, he said, information disclosure still faces many challenges, such as the culture of secrecy in public bodies.

Therefore, the coordination meeting is expected to result in formulations on the types of information that need to be disclosed to the public.
