Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA) - The Communication and Informatics Ministry has selected Makassar City, South Sulawesi, as the host of the 2024 Public Information Community Festival (KIM Fest).

The ministry's Director General of Public Information and Communication Usman Kansong met with the Mayor of Makassar, Moh Ramdhan Pomanto, here on Friday to inform him about the city's selection as host.

"We have the annual KIM Fest. Last year in Surabaya and this year we want to hold it in Makassar, and of course, this is with the mayor's support," Kansong said after meeting Pomanto.

He informed that KIM Fest will take the form of an exhibition, which will be attended by public information communities from all Indonesian provinces.

The event will also serve as a form of appreciation for KIMs as the government's strategic partners in carrying out public communication.

"We have public information communities in all provinces. The ministry usually encourages them to convey all information to the public, be it about small businesses, tourism, fisheries, or agriculture," he said.

According to him, activities like KIM Fest are important to maintain face-to-face friendships in the digital era as the communities will get a chance to become more familiar and closer.

Moreover, there are some people who still face difficulty using technology — they are either constrained by network or other issues, he noted.

KIM Fest will also seek to foster the spirit of innovation, competition, collaboration, and networking between KIMs across Indonesia.

Mayor Pomanto said that his administration welcomed the activity.

He said he is grateful that Makassar city has been given the opportunity to host the ministry event as it could help promote the region.

"We are ready and very happy that Makassar can be the host," he added.
