Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) said that water, electricity, gas, and Internet availability will be secured at Nusantara capital city (IKN) before August 17, 2024.

"Water, electricity, fiber optic (Internet), gas, hopefully (will be ready by August 17)," chair of the PUPR Ministry's IKN infrastructure development task force, Danis Sumadilaga, said at the ministry's office here on Friday.

He informed that access to water will be ready by mid-July, around the third week.

The ministry is working to expedite the completion of the Sepaku Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) for meeting drinking water needs at IKN. The system is targeted to be ready by July 2024.

The Directorate General of Water Resources of the ministry has completed the construction of the Sepaku Semoi Dam, which has a capacity of 2,500 liters per second, and Sepaku River Intake, which has a capacity of 3,000 liters per second, to meet the IKN's water needs.

"Electricity will be ready in August, Internet (also) in August," Sumadilaga said.

Regarding the gas network, he revealed that it is currently being installed.

"Yesterday, I met the gas team, the gas network team directly," he said.

Earlier, PUPR minister and acting head of the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN), Basuki Hadimuljono, revealed that the preparations for Independence Day at IKN were complete.

"Overall, it can be declared ready, I think 90 percent. Later in July, the President of Indonesia will go to IKN again to carry out the final checks," Hadimuljono said in Jakarta on June 6.

He further said that by August, the 12 towers of civil workers' flats at IKN will be fully furnished and ready for the ceremony participants to move in.

He said that the minister's residences will be completed and ready to be occupied. The presidential palace will also be completed.
