Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) and the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) are seeking to strengthen their partnership by observing the 31st National Family Day (Harganas) on June 29, 2024.

"The partnership between the ministry and BKKBN is expected to be strengthened, especially in disseminating and implementing various policies that regulate the fulfillment of children's rights and protection," PPPA Minister Bintang Puspayoga said here on Friday.

The PPPA Ministry and BKKBN have strengthened their partnership by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU), she added.

The MoU seeks to increase synergy between women's empowerment and child protection programs and BKKBN's family planning and development and population planning programs.

The agreement was established in 2022 with the aim of accelerating stunting reduction and achieving five presidential directives, including increasing women's empowerment in entrepreneurship with a gender perspective.

The other directives comprise increasing the role of mothers and families in education and childcare, eliminating violence against women and children, reducing child labor, and preventing child marriage.

In addition, the PPPA Ministry has issued Ministerial Regulation Number 7 of 2022 concerning Improving the Quality of Families through the Development of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection.

The regulation is meant to be a reference for central, provincial, district, city, and village governments for integrating policies, programs, and activities to support family quality improvement.

"The ministry has also compiled the Family Quality Index, which can be a reference for measuring the quality of families that should be gender-responsive and have a children's rights perspective," Puspayoga said.

The Mother and Child Welfare Law (KIA Law) passed on June 4 provides a stronger basis to improve the quality of the country's next generations, she added. (INE)
