Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA) - The Indonesian wushu team won three gold, three silver, and two bronze medals in the Taolu competition at the ASEAN University Games (AUG) 2024, held at Surabaya University Sports Center in Surabaya, East Java.

The AUG 2024 is being held from June 25 to July 6, 2024, in Surabaya and Malang, East Java.

The Indonesian wushu team's coach, Xiao Haidong, said here on Thursday that the eight-medal win was in line with expectations.

"This result is in line with our expectations, namely getting eight medals consisting of three gold, three silver, and two bronze. Therefore, our coaching team is very satisfied with this result. Everyone has fought tooth and nail. This result is the best," he said.

Of the four events it competed in the Taolu category, Indonesia won three gold medals, namely in Taiji Quan (men), Dao Shu (men), and Jian Shu (women). Meanwhile, wushu athlete Lackhar Basma from Brunei Darussalam took the gold medal in the Taiji Quan (women) event.

Indonesian wushu athlete Seraf Naro Siregar, who was one of the gold medal winners, informed that he had made comprehensive preparations for the AUG 2024.

"The preparation was very good, the coaching was also excellent; they did great in coaching me so that I could have an excellent quality in this AUG," he said.

According to the athlete, Singapore was the toughest opponent in the match, though athletes from Thailand, the Philippines, and Brunei Darussalam also performed well.

"Actually, the toughest opponent was Singapore. However, at the ASEAN level, everyone has a relatively good performance. Thus, I think, all (athletes) are strong opponents, especially Singapore," Siregar said.
