"For the first time, the Taliban, as the de facto authority (DFA) in Afghanistan, was present at the Doha III meeting," she noted in a press statement.
Doha III is a continuation of the previous meetings, Doha I (May 2023) and Doha II (February).
Initiated by the UN Secretary General, with Qatar as the host, the meeting aimed to address the follow-up to the UN Secretary General's independent assessment. The goal was to assist the Afghan people in overcoming the multidimensional crisis they currently face.
Marsudi emphasized that the Taliban's participation in the meeting did not imply recognition by the international community.
Instead, it was an effort to engage in inclusive dialogue with all stakeholders in Afghanistan, particularly regarding women's rights in education and work contexts.
The Doha III agenda covered two main topics: private sector development and narcotics countermeasures.
Marsudi highlighted positive developments related to security issues. Notably, the “poppy ban” policy, which prohibits opium cultivation, has led to a 95 percent reduction in cultivation within the country.
"We know that the challenge of this policy is how to provide alternative livelihoods for farmers who previously grew opium," she remarked.
She emphasized the need for economic activities that prevent a return to opium cultivation and illicit drug trafficking.
Doha III was chaired by UN Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs and Peacebuilding Rosemary DiCarlo.
It was attended by representatives from 25 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, South Korea, India, China, Germany, Canada, Russia, Turkey, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia.
Additionally, representatives from international organizations such as the United Nations, the European Union, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation were present.
