Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto has asked the computer security incident response teams (CSIRTs) of all ministries and institutions to play an active role in strengthening the data security system.

"The CSIRT is not only an icon. It must carry out its functions, continue to monitor, continue to respond, and be ready to handle cyber problems," he said during his visit to the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) office, according to a press release issued by his ministry on Tuesday.

A CSIRT is a team that provides services in the form of securing and monitoring cyberspace. It is responsible for handling any cyber incident in an agency or region.

All ministries and institutions should be equipped with such teams, which serve as a line of defense to secure data if the system is hacked.

According to Tjahjanto, the operation of CSIRTs at every agency and ministry must be in keeping with security standards, specifically BSSN Regulation Number 8 of 2020, BSSN Regulation Number 4 of 2021, and BSSN Regulation Number 9 of 2023 concerning procedures for preparing conformity assessment schemes based on Indonesian national standards.

Besides relying on CSIRTs, the minister will also make BSSN the control center for maintaining the security of the Temporary National Data Center (PDNS) 2.

BSSN will carry out security and monitoring of PDNS 2, which stores data from ministries, institutions, and regional governments.

Tjahjanto believes that with such layered security, the national data defense system can improve and cyberattacks can be prevented from recurring.

Earlier, 93 CSIRTs were established in various agencies and ministries. This number was the final achievement of the CSIRT target of 160 in ministries and institutions.

Meanwhile, 157 CSIRTs have been formed within provincial and district governments across Indonesia. The number is still far from the target of establishing 552 CSIRTs within local governments.
