Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and First Lady Iriana received an enthusiastic welcome from traders and locals at Sentral Palakka Market, Bone district, South Sulawesi province, on Thursday.

Zubaidah, a staple food trader, said that President Widodo inquired about the prices of food in the market.

"He asked about the prices of eggs and rice. The Food Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) brand rice is Rp62,500 per sack, eggs at Rp40 thousand per sack, shallots are Rp30 thousand per kg, and garlic is Rp40 thousand per kg. The prices are stable now," she informed.

She said that she was grateful that the President stopped at her store. "We are very grateful that Mr. Jokowi visited the Bone people," she added.

Another trader, Sanatang, said that she did not expect to meet the President and First Lady. She informed that they bought traditional cakes from her.

"I am very happy and I had never imagined this. It is like a dream to be visited by Mr. Jokowi. I had never imagined that he would buy my stuff," she added.

Local residents in the market also got an opportunity to take selfies with the President. One of them was Hasnawati, who said she had been wishing to meet and shake hands with Widodo ever since he became President in 2014.

"Since 2014, I have always recited the Al-Fatihah (prayer) so that I can shake hands with you, sir; it took 10 years (for the prayer) to be granted, thank God," she remarked.

She also expressed gratitude over the President's leadership and inspiration.

"For the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, we are very proud of you. Hopefully, you can give us even better inspiration and pay attention to the people," she said.
