Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Informatics has outlined a three-zone data recovery plan following the ransomware attack at the Temporary National Data Center (PDNS) 2.

The zones are labeled red, blue, and green, with each having different data handling processes. The current incident is in the red zone, undergoing quarantine.

"Data will then move to the blue zone for cleaning before being made available for users in the green zone," said Ismail, the ministry's acting Director General of Informatics Applications, on Tuesday.

Decrypted data will be prioritized for migration to the blue zone, the most critical recovery area, he explained.

Data checking in that zone also involves the removal of malware or suspicious viruses from successfully rescued data, Ismail added. Additionally, the government will reset passwords for PDNS 2 users in the blue zone.

These steps aim to ensure no vulnerabilities remain for cyber attackers to exploit, preventing similar incidents that disrupt public services.

Lastly, data from the blue zone will be moved to the green zone for user access.

"In the green zone, we prepare to upload the data and make it available. This process is used for data that was not attacked or infected. Backups already exist with each tenant or institution," Ismail said.

Regarding the PDNS 2 recovery strategy, the government has prepared short-term, medium-term, and long-term plans.

The short-term strategy involves emergency recovery steps scheduled for July–August. This includes prioritizing the restoration of critical public services, such as immigration.

Additionally, the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) and the National Police (Polri) will conduct a forensic investigation as part of the short-term plan.

The medium-term plan, from August to September, focuses on talent redeployment and improving governance and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Under the long-term strategy, an independent third party will conduct a security audit of PDNS 1 and PDNS 2 in September, expected to be completed by November.
