"UT has a very big role in the world of communication technology. UT must play a role in digital transformation in society, so they can take advantage of the technology in their smartphones," he said at the inauguration of the Open University (UT) campus in Makassar on Wednesday.
He expressed the hope that the UT's presence in Makassar city would help push up South Sulawesi's human development index.
According to him, UT is participating in building national intelligence. This can be seen from the number of Open University alumni, which has reached more than two million.
"The Open University is also attended by students from outside Indonesia, such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Singapore," he said.
Meanwhile, the rector of UT Makassar, Prof. Ojat Darojat, said that the new campus in Makassar has been established to ensure that all people have the opportunity to pursue higher education without having to leave their homes or jobs.
"The tuition fee is also very cheap and affordable. We have also achieved Accreditation A and the university has become a Legal Entity State University (PTN BH) since 2022," he informed.
He said he hopes that UT's distance learning program will become increasingly popular among young people.
"I often say that do not dare call oneself a millennial if they are still studying on a conventional campus," he added.
The location of the UT Makassar campus is very strategic, namely at Simpang 5 of Sultan Hasanuddin Airport, near Maros district and Makassar city, right on Perintis Kemerdekaan Street.
