Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Board (BP2MI) and Soekarno-Hatta Airport Immigration in Tangerang, Banten, successfully prevented the illegal placement of prospective Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) headed for Cambodia.

In an official statement from BP2MI received in Jakarta on Saturday, Acting Director of Protection and Empowerment of the Asia and Africa Region of BP2MI Firman Yulianto stated that the efforts to prevent non-procedural placement were successfully carried out on Friday (July 26).

"The Head of the Indonesia Migrant Workers Protection Board, Benny Rhamdani, received information regarding the departure of three prospective migrant workers who were going to Cambodia via Bangkok," Yulianto revealed.

He noted that based on the information, the BP2MI head immediately ordered his staff to promptly coordinate with the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Immigration to thwart the departure of the three prospective Indonesian workers.

"After Immigration received information from BP2MI, monitoring and prevention of the prospective migrant workers were carried out," he explained.

He remarked that two prospective migrant workers, who were about to fly to Cambodia via Bangkok, were successfully prevented from departing at the International Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

However, another prospective migrant worker was not identified, as that individual had not passed through the airport's departure immigration.

"BP2MI continues to prevent the placement of Indonesian migrant workers that are not carried out procedurally. Moreover, Cambodia is not a country where Indonesian migrant workers are placed," he stated.
