"We want to ensure the weather modification operation for the past 10 days has run optimally," he added while reviewing the construction of the BNPB office in IKN, East Kalimantan, on Saturday.
For the weather modification, the BNPB deployed a Cessna aircraft from Base Ops at APT Pranoto Samarinda Airport with 1 ton of sodium chloride (NaCl), or salt.
The chemical compound was sown in rain cloud seeds to redistribute rainfall around the construction work area at IKN.
"Today's weather was good. Not too hot. It can support the IKN construction target," Suharyanto said.
His party also held a coordination meeting with the IKN Authority regarding several requests for readiness against wet meteorological disasters and the need for coordinated action.
One of the construction projects supported through weather modification was road asphalting in the strategic area of North Penajam Paser, close to the center of IKN development.
The road is one of the main access routes to the IKN area, and is important for supporting regional mobility and connectivity, he explained.
Asphalting work takes 24 hours with no rain. It starts with land preparation, which involves the construction team scraping old asphalt and repairing the basic structure of the road to ensure stability and durability.
This is followed by the application of the base course layer to provide a strong and even foundation for the next layer of asphalt.
The primary asphalt layer is then applied using a modern asphalting machine. The machine spreads the hot asphalt mixture evenly along the road surface. This is followed by compaction using a heavy roller.
During construction, the quality monitoring team periodically checks the density, thickness, and roughness of the asphalt surface to ensure it meets construction standards.
In addition, prevention and mitigation efforts are carried out to reduce the impact on traffic and the surrounding environment through traffic engineering with the vehicle open-close system.
