Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology is collaborating with the Nusantara Indigenous Peoples' Alliance (AMAN) to strengthen Indigenous education on climate action.

According to a press release issued here on Tuesday, the collaboration is being realized through the Grand Conference of Nusantara Indigenous Education, which has been organized from August 12–15, 2024.

The ministry's director of belief in Almighty God and Indigenous peoples, Sjamsul Hadi, said that the conference aims to realize an Indigenous education movement that can improve the knowledge of the Indigenous people on collective actions to save and conserve the Earth.

"The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology supports full efforts in accelerating the ratification of the law on Indigenous peoples and push Indigenous education services throughout the country," he added.

Hadi noted that, in keeping with the mandate of the Constitution and Law Number 5 of 2017 on Cultural Advancement, the education of Indigenous peoples is a priority and basis for cultural inheritance from the old to the young.

In relation to the current issue of climate change, he invited people to return to consuming local foods, based on local wisdom and knowledge.

With the current conditions, he said, the Indigenous school approach is considered capable of maintaining the sustainability of nature while preserving the ecosystem in the environment of Indigenous peoples.

He added that his ministry's commitment has been realized through the Advocacy Services of Belief in Almighty God, as the number of corporations entering Indigenous territories is increasing.

The commitment will involve 25 relevant ministries and agencies in protecting Indigenous peoples and helping maintain the natural environment around them.

"With the presence of Indigenous schools fostered by AMAN and other non-AMAN Indigenous peoples, we also encourage efforts to facilitate indigenous education," he said.
