Jakarta (ANTARA) - The strengthening of cooperation for development in Africa will be one of the focuses of discussions at the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum.

Director general of public information and diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Siti Nugraha Mauludiah, delivered the remarks at an online media briefing on Thursday.

She informed that the cooperation strengthening is a part of the government's efforts to realize the commitment to supporting the achievement of global development goals, especially in developing countries.

According to Mauludiah, Indonesia's commitment is based on the spirit of the Asian-African Conference and a real manifestation of its leadership of the non-aligned movement.

"Indonesia has been consistent and has played an active role in implementing South-South Cooperation and giving grants," she said.

In the last two decades, Indonesia has organized at least one thousand South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) programs, she added.

Those SSTC programs were not only carried out for countries in Africa but also those in Asia, the Pacific, the Middle East, South America, the Caribbean, as well as Eastern Europe and Europe.

Indonesia's SSTC program sectors are also very broad, covering the agriculture, maritime, fisheries, energy, democracy, good governance, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), entrepreneurship, infrastructure, disaster risk management, and women's empowerment sectors.

She also emphasized that on the international stage, Indonesia is increasingly recognized as a reliable development partner for developing countries.

Indonesia's initiative and leadership role as an emerging donor is also increasingly recognized.

Indonesia also encouraged other emerging donor countries to jointly strengthen their position in facing global challenges through the Emerging Development Partners Meeting held last June.

To further strengthen Indonesia's international development cooperation, especially the provision of grants, in 2019, Indonesia established the Indonesian Agency for International Development (Indonesian AID).

"Since the establishment of Indonesian AID, the Indonesian government has carried out more than 50 grant programs with a total grant of more than 1 trillion rupiahs (around 63.43 million US dollars)," Mauludiah said.

The 2nd IAF is scheduled to be held in Bali from September 1–3, 2024.
