"To practice power politics in the presidential government system, with a balance of branches of power, we need statesmen who also are politicians and vice versa," Maharani noted in a speech during the joint session of the DPR and the Regional Representative Council (DPD) at the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Friday.
Puan remarked that a statesman will think along the lines of a better future for the country, while politicians will think about better election results in the future.
"Vision without power will be in vain, and power without vision becomes arbitrary," she stated.
Hence, when the country is led by someone with a statesman-like attitude and a political soul, the power of the state will be used for the welfare of the people.
"State power for the greater good, not to aggrandize oneself, a group, or certain interests," she affirmed.
