In general, the policy of budgeting in the state budget has not been fully able to finance the needs for blue economy development in the marine and fishery sectors.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries called for the involvement of business entities, the private sector, and other institutions in financing the development of the marine and fishery sectors to support blue economy programs.

The ministry's Secretary General, Rudy Heriyanto Adi Nugroho, stated here on Friday that as the biggest archipelagic country in the world, Indonesia has vast potential in marine and fishery resources.

He further noted that, in general, the policy of budgeting in the state budget has not been fully able to finance the needs for blue economy development in the marine and fishery sectors.

"With the limitations of budget sourced from the state budget, creative, collaborative, and inclusive financing innovation is needed as a solution to fiscal limitations in the state budget budgeting in the sustainable implementation of the blue economy in Indonesia," he remarked.

Nugroho explained that his ministry needs to develop innovative and collaborative financing to accommodate various sources of legal funding to be involved in financing the development of the marine and fishery sectors.

To this end, the ministry is pushing for the involvement of business entities, the private sector, and other institutions.

"The implementation of the ministry's Blue Economy policy is in line with the 8 asta cita missions that will be carried out by the next government in 2025–2029, especially in realizing 2045 Golden Indonesia," he remarked.

Marine Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono has launched five blue economy policies to maintain the balance between ecology and the economy.

The policies are expanding marine conservation areas, quota-based measured fishing, and sustainable marine, coastal, and land aquaculture development; monitoring and control of coastal areas and small islands; and handling of plastic waste in the sea with fishers' participation.
