Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Presidential Secretariat confirmed that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will make another stay at Indonesia's new capital, Nusantara, in September 2024 for work-related reasons.

According to Secretariat Chief Heru Budi Hartono, Jokowi's stay at Nusantara will hinge on his presidential daily agenda.

"The president has numerous working visits to undertake, and he will stay for some time to work in Nusantara between his visits," Hartono stated at the Presidential Palace Complex here on Monday.

The Presidential Secretariat is working with the State Secretariat Ministry, the Cabinet Secretariat, and the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry to prepare for the next president's stay at the new capital.

However, President Jokowi's upcoming stay does not mean that he will start working from Nusantara permanently. It has also not been decided whether President-elect and Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto will join the president in the new capital.

"We will see later," the secretariat chief remarked in connection with the prospects of Prabowo relocating his office to Nusantara.

Hartono also emphasized that the president's stay to work in Nusantara should not be interpreted as a way to escape the ongoing protest in Jakarta due to the parliament's attempt to override the Constitutional Court's verdicts on regional leaders' election law.

The president earlier worked from his Nusantara Palace on July 29, 2024. On that day, he held a meeting with the Nusantara Capital Authority, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, and several regional leaders and entrepreneurs from East Kalimantan.

He stayed at the Garuda Palace for several days before returning to Jakarta.

Jokowi, along with the president-elect, returned to Nusantara to preside over the Independence Day ceremony in the new capital on August 17. In a break from tradition, this year's Independence Day ceremony took place both in Nusantara and the current national capital, Jakarta.
