Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Health Dante Saksono Harbuwono checked the readiness of monkeypox (Mpox) screening at the international arrival area of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali ahead of the Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) 2024 to be held on September 1-3.

In a statement received here on Wednesday evening, Harbuwono emphasized the importance of health screening to ensure that all activities in Bali can run well.

The ministry has readied a handling scenario, ranging from the implementation of screening to referring passengers confirmed to have Mpox to local hospitals.

"We and the Health Quarantine Center have determined the screening scenario, starting from the placement of screening tools, the PCR (swab test) room, and questionnaires to the process of referring to hospitals," he explained.

The Mpox screening flow starts from the international arrival area. All arriving passengers will pass through the thermal scanner first.

If a person is detected with a body temperature above 37.5 degrees Celsius, then a re-examination will be conducted using a thermal gun.

If the body temperature remains high, passengers will be taken to the testing room for a swab sampling.

If the test result is positive for Mpox, then the passenger will be immediately referred to a hospital.

"After the scenario that we applied and tried to simulate today, we have determined the place where the swab test will be carried out, where the thermal scanner will be installed, and where the questionnaire is so that all can be identified correctly and not disturb other passengers," he remarked.

In addition, the authority has installed educational information about Mpox vigilance and prevention on the digital screens at the Bali Airport.
