Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia will apply health protocols based on World Health Organization (WHO) standards to anticipate mpox cases during the High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnership (HLF MSP) 2024.

"We will apply health protocols according to WHO standards, such as temperature checks at airports and places for quarantine," deputy for politics, law, defense, and security at the Ministry of National Development Planning, Bogat Widyatmoko, said at a press conference on Wednesday.

According to him, the Indonesian government has learned a lot from the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, health protocols will be applied ahead of the HLF MSP to mitigate the risk of monkeypox.

The government is planning to conduct a simulation on August 30, 2024, followed by a rehearsal on August 31 and September 1, he informed.

Widyatmoko said that the government is also readying Internet network infrastructure and cybersecurity.

The 2024 HLF MSP will be held in Bali on September 1–3, coinciding with the 69th anniversary of the Asia-Africa Conference, also known as the Bandung Conference, which emphasizes the spirit of solidarity and cooperation among developing countries.

The meeting is expected to accommodate various global stakeholders in jointly designing a more inclusive and sustainable future, in line with the spirit of the Bandung Spirit, which has been pursued since 1955.

The event will be an important milestone in the history of diplomacy and international development cooperation, especially between developing countries.

The forum will not only find solutions to the deadlock in global development but also ensure the commitment of all parties and their roles in fighting for solutions.

Earlier, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that on August 14, the WHO declared mpox as a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC).

The emergence of mpox clade 1B in Africa was the main factor behind the change in status, he added.
