Jakarta (ANTARA) - Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration Minister Abdul Halim Iskandar has underscored that cooperation between villages should not be limited by geographical constraints.

He delivered the remarks at the 2nd Senior Officials Meeting on Rural Development and Poverty Eradication (SOMRDPE) and the ASEAN Village Network (AVN) meeting in Batu, East Java, on Thursday, which was accessed via YouTube.

Iskandar noted that cooperation can be pursued between villages even if the distance is large.

"It means, it is highly possible for villages in Papua to cooperate with villages in Aceh. Villages in Kalimantan are expected to build networks with villages in North Sumatra in carrying out efforts to accelerate development, and so on," he explained.

This, he said, is because the essence of cooperation between villages is building village networks in Indonesia.

"It (the cooperation) must be filled with the same interests, needs that can be synergized with the main targets, namely economic growth and improvement of human resources at the village level," he added.

The minister expressed the hope that through the 2nd SOMRDPE and AVN meeting, villages in Indonesia can build cooperation with villages in other countries, such as Japan, and ASEAN countries.

"There should be no geographical limitations, not only at the local level but also regional level," he stressed.

Delegates from several countries, such as Singapore, Thailand, South Korea, Cambodia, Laos, and Malaysia, as well as representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat, are attending the SOMRDPE and the AVN meeting, which is being held from August 28 to September 1, 2024.
