Banda Aceh (ANTARA) - The Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) Ministry on Sunday inaugurated a media center in Banda Aceh, Aceh Province, to facilitate journalists covering the 21st Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week (PON).

Kominfo Deputy Minister Nezar Patria remarked that the media center, established at Hermes Hotel with the support from the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) and PON National Committee, is on par to similar facilities previously provided by the ministry during other national events.

Besides the one in Aceh, the ministry has also prepared a media center at Santika Dyandra Hotel in Medan, the capital of North Sumatra Province.

Patria noted that the two media centers are designed as interconnected newsrooms that provide conveniences for both journalists and guests in keeping up with sports matches held in the two host provinces.

Aceh's PON media center hosts a working area equipped with computers, a press conference area, a broadcasting studio, and a dining room.

The deputy minister stated that a team of journalists under the ministry's coordination would use the media center to publicize PON-related contents in the form of text, video, and photo that will be made available for national and local news outlets.

"We would like to encourage journalists to make the Aceh-North Sumatra PON a success by making the most of this facility to spread joy and spirit of the 21 PON to the whole nation," he said.

Meanwhile, acting Aceh Governor Safrizal Zakaria Ali encourages journalists to participate in spreading information on the national event while emphasizing that his office would facilitate reporters to work professionally at the media center.

He then drew attention to the urgency of disseminating only reliable and accurate news, as he observed that the current era of digitization has made it even more convenient to spread false information.

"We hope that quality journalistic products will help the Aceh-North Sumatra PON emerge as a grand sports event this year, which, in turn, is expected to produce athletes that possess the potential to become Indonesia's future stars," he stated.
