Palu, Central Sulawesi (ANTARA) - Central Sulawesi Governor Rusdy Mastura said the development of the Neo Energy Morowali Industrial Estate (NEMIE) industrial area in Morowali District is a breakthrough for sustainable industrial development in the region.

"This is an important momentum with a significant impact on the regional economy and the national industry in realizing the welfare of the surrounding community based on downstreaming and environmentally friendly industry," he remarked in a statement from his office on Sunday.

When attending the groundbreaking of "High-Pressure Acid Leaching (HPAL) Neo Energy" in the NEMIE Area, Morowali, on Saturday (September 14), Mastura ensured that every investment made in the facility should improve community welfare with an environmentally friendly industry.

Therefore, the governor asked related parties to establish good communication and cooperation between the government, companies, universities, and local communities in encouraging inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

"All parties should synergize and collaborate to make this industry a milestone in building the nation's civilization towards the Golden Indonesia 2045, starting from the Land of a Thousand Megaliths, Central Sulawesi Province," he emphasized.

According to Mastura, the development of the industrial area is included in the national strategic project (PSN).

Neo Energy has realized its investment by building the first HPAL smelter in Indonesia with 100 percent renewable energy.

The smelter will process nickel ore or limonite into mixed hydroxide precipitate (MHP) as a precursor material for EV battery cathodes.

Based on the statement, the Neo Energy HPAL battery project is expected to increase the national MHP capacity by 120 thousand metric tons per year.

The HPAL facility is located in NEMIE, an industrial area designed as the center for green energy-based mineral processing.

All operations in the area will use 100 percent renewable energy, including hydropower and solar power, making it an environmentally friendly industrial practice in Indonesia.

The NEMIE Industrial Area has obtained an industrial area business permit (IUKI) in August 2024 as a legal certainty for prospective investors.
