Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) called on all Indonesians to be appreciative of the hard work put in by farmers who have served as the "guardians of Indonesia's food security."

"Let us appreciate the hard work of farmers who have maintained the balance of nature and food security in Indonesia," Jokowi stated on his X account @jokowi here on Tuesday on National Farmers' Day (HTN).

The president affirmed that HTN has become a momentum to remind everyone of the importance of the farmers' role in supporting the life of the nation.

On his social media account, Jokowi shared an illustration picture showing the Presidential Palace in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) in East Kalimantan. In that picture, the palace is surrounded by farmers harvesting agricultural crops.

HTN is celebrated every September 24 in Indonesia as a mark of appreciation for the farmers' imminent role in nation-building.

This celebration is rooted in the issuance of Law No. 5 of 1960 (UUPA) concerning the basic regulations on the agrarian principles on September 24, 1960.

The law is considered an important milestone in the country's agrarian reform.

The annual celebration of HTN has an interesting history, considering the significant role of the country's agricultural sector.

Thousands of farmers and workers held a rally in Jakarta on Tuesday, starting from the Patung Kuda Statue, State Palace, and walking to the parliament complex.

Several demands put forth at the rally during the 64th HTN were implementing agrarian reform, resolving agrarian conflicts, and rejecting food imports, among others.
