President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is scheduled to visit Maluku province on October 3, 2024, to review the handling of stunting cases and inspect markets, according to the local government.
"President Joko Widodo will initiate his agenda on October 3 by visiting South Buru district," acting regional secretary of Maluku, Syuryadi Sabirin, said in Ambon city on Friday.
In South Buru, Widodo will inspect services and medical equipment at a regional public hospital, he informed. He will also visit a market to observe people's economic conditions and the inflation rate and distribute direct cash aid to locals, he added.
The next day, he will travel to East Seram district, where he is scheduled to visit a public hospital in Bula sub-district to get updates on measures taken against stunting, polio, and tuberculosis, as well as learn about the health of residents.
"Additionally, President Jokowi will visit East Seram Public Vocational High School 1, known for its agrobusiness major, to motivate (students) to create job opportunities once they graduate," Sabirin said.
The official added that the head of state will offer the Friday prayer at a local grand mosque before returning to Jakarta via Ambon, Maluku's capital city.
To prepare for the President's visit, the Maluku provincial government organized a coordination meeting and tidied up Mardika Market in Ambon city to ensure a conducive situation, Sabirin said.
"It is crucial to maintain security to make the President feel comfortable during his stay in Maluku," he emphasized.
The secretary then drew attention to stunting alleviation, saying that the Maluku Office of the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) has been striving to improve the implementation of related programs.
He further said that the regional government has been intensifying the development of health infrastructures across Maluku to ensure the success of national programs implemented by the central government under President Widodo's decade-long leadership.
