Solo (ANTARA) - The Grand Committee for the 2024 National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) has announced that the nation's largest para-sports event is ready to be held in Solo, Central Java.

"We are pleased to announce that we are fully prepared to organize the 17th Peparnas. Thanks to the support from all relevant parties, we have successfully completed the necessary preparations within a very short time," said D.B. Susanto, the committee's chairperson, on Sunday.

Due to the transfer of hosting duties from North Sumatra to Solo, the grand committee was only established on July 29, while the event itself is scheduled for October 6-13, he explained.

He added that immediately after its formation, the committee set up work units and developed programs in line with the master plan.

Susanto emphasized that the committee has been coordinating closely with the National Paralympic Committee of Indonesia (NPCI) to ensure that everything complies with the NPCI's regulations.

He also mentioned that the committee successfully addressed financial challenges that had initially prevented several provinces from participating.

As a result of the committee's efforts and collaboration with stakeholders, the 17th Peparnas will see participation from 35 provinces—the highest number in the event’s history, he said.

"We have seen tremendous enthusiasm from the provinces for this year’s Peparnas," he noted, adding that 4,632 athletes and officials have already arrived in Solo.

President Joko Widodo is scheduled to officially open the Paralympic Week during a ceremony at Manahan Stadium, Solo, on Sunday evening.
