Jakarta (ANTARA) - The central government has disbursed a budget of Rp290 billion (US$19.2 million) for the 2024 National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) in Greater Solo, Central Java, Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo informed on Friday.

Speaking to the media after the signing of a cooperation pact with the Peparnas Committee at his office in Jakarta, the minister informed that the budget will be utilized by the committee led by D. B. Susanto.

He then underscored that Greater Solo, particularly the city of Solo or Surakarta, does not need to set up new venues as the venues used for the 11th ASEAN Para Games in 2022 are still in good condition.

"The host status of Peparnas was transferred to Surakarta (from North Sumatra) because its sports venues and hotels have been in a prepared state since the 2022 ASEAN Para Games," the minister added.

Furthermore, he highlighted that the government formed a task force to oversee and evaluate both the upcoming Peparnas and the recently concluded Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week (PON).

Peparnas committee's Susanto, on his part, promised that his side will make the most of the budget to make this year's Peparnas a successful event.

"Even before the budget disbursement, we had been preparing venues and conducting monitoring as well as evaluations," he said.

The 27th Peparnas, scheduled from October 6–13, 2024, will see participation from a total of 4,625 para athletes from across Indonesia.

They will vie for medals in 20 sports competitions, which will be held in the Greater Solo area comprising Solo city, Sukoharjo district, Boyolali district, and Karanganyar district.

The event will feature badminton, chess, swimming, sitting volleyball, wheelchair fencing, table tennis, archery, blind judo, shooting, weightlifting, athletics, bike racing, boccia, taekwondo, bowling, football, goalball, wheelchair tennis, wheelchair basketball, and e-sports.

According to the plan, the event's opening and closing ceremonies will take place at Manahan Stadium, Solo city, on October 6 and 13, respectively.
