Jakarta (ANTARA) - Forty Indonesians and one foreign national, the spouse of an Indonesian, will be flown to Indonesia after being evacuated from Lebanon, an official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

Judha Nugraha, Director of Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Legal Entities at the ministry, stated that the 40 Indonesians and a Lebanese citizen were evacuated by land from Beirut, Lebanon, to Amman, Jordan.

"They are safe and secure in Amman," he said in a statement on Sunday.

They will be repatriated to Indonesia on two commercial flights, arriving in Jakarta on October 7.

The ministry confirmed that 65 Indonesian nationals have been evacuated from Lebanon in several batches amid the worsening security situation in the country due to tensions in the Middle East.

Currently, 116 Indonesians remain in Lebanon, 83 of whom are in Beirut, Nugraha said.

He added that four Indonesians have opted to stay in southern Lebanon despite the increasingly dangerous conditions in the area.

The ministry and the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut have intensified communication with Indonesian nationals in Lebanon and urged them to evacuate immediately for their own safety, Nugraha added.
