Jakarta (ANTARA) - The State Administration Institution (LAN) has said that the development of civil servants' competency is key for the provision of quality public services and national progress.

According to the acting head of LAN, Taufiq, the development of civil servants' competencies would improve bureaucratic services to people and enable them to compete with other countries.

"To this end, we continue to transform in developing the competency of civil servants, whose number is currently at 4.5 million people," he said during a discussion in Jakarta on Saturday.

One of the transformation efforts made by LAN to develop the competency of civil servants, he informed, has been intensifying collaborative programs, such as the Leadership Joint Program.

The program is a supervisor-level leadership training program that is the result of collaboration between LAN, the private sector, and foreign government agencies, Taufiq added.

It aims to create new managerial competencies that prioritize professionalism, agility, and non-bureaucracy, he continued.

He further said that in the future, civil servants' competency development will tend to be similar to the Leadership Joint Program, which involves training ecosystem collaboration.

This is considering that the number of civil servants will increase next year to around 6.5 million due to the recruitment of new civil servants this year, he added.

Currently, LAN is assisting 150 training institutions in Indonesia and carrying out training programs for civil servants of various ranks.

"Thus, going forward, it is not carried out individually. Civil servants have the right to get the best sources for learning," he said.

Through transformation and collaboration in the development of competency, he added, LAN will help civil servants master technology, be oriented toward creative and innovative services, and maintain integrity.
