According to Sadikin, Prabowo expects the health check program to continue to be scaled up to support public health.Jakarta (ANTARA) - President-elect Prabowo Subianto summoned Budi Gunadi Sadikin, who is serving as Health Minister in President Joko Widodo's government, to discuss health issues, including doctor vacancies and vaccines for tuberculosis and malaria.
Sadikin said that he was summoned to Prabowo's private residence in Kertanegara IV, Jakarta, on Monday evening for a meeting with the president-elect.
"The number of doctors must be sufficient, the number of specialist doctors must be sufficient. (We discussed) How can the education of doctors and specialist doctors be increased," he informed.
During the closed meeting, Prabowo and the minister also mulled over the possibility of sending Indonesians to medical schools abroad to speed up efforts to fill doctor vacancies in the country.
According to Sadikin, Prabowo expects the health check program to continue to be scaled up to support public health.
"He also ordered that there are diseases that he thinks (we) should be able to overcome in Indonesia, such as tuberculosis and malaria. Those should be eliminated quickly, find a vaccine so that our community can quickly get rid of these diseases," he added.
When asked by the media about his ability to fulfill the requests, he said that Prabowo had not mentioned anything related to it.
From 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Prabowo summoned ministerial candidates to his private residence in Kertanegara to discuss their Cabinet assignments.
They included professionals, academics, politicians, bureaucrats, religious figures, high-ranking officials of community organizations, active police officials, as well as former soldiers.
