Jakarta (ANTARA) - Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi has underlined the important role of Indonesia and South Korea as strategic partners who are jointly helping maintain peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region.

"Amid the current geopolitical dynamics, Indonesia and South Korea must become positive forces to reduce regional tensions," she said in a video recording broadcast on Friday.

She made the statement on the occasion of a public lecture delivered by South Korean Foreign Minister (2022–2024), Park Jin, at Prasetiya Mulya University and CSIS Indonesia in Jakarta.

According to Marsudi, the role of preserving regional peace and stability can be carried out by the two countries since they have a special strategic partnership.

They also have common economic interests and a shared belief in the values of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law, the minister added.

As fellow Asia-Pacific countries, Indonesia and South Korea must help build bridges and realize a sense of mutual trust between countries in the region, Marsudi emphasized.

"Indonesia is always ready to work with South Korea and other countries in East Asia to create an inclusive, stable, and prosperous region," she stated.

Besides regional stability, the two countries are facing challenges in their strategic partnership in terms of improving green development and energy transition, she noted.

According to her, South Korea succeeded in spurring industrialization and manufacturing with the help of various innovations made through advances in research and technology.

This led to the "Miracle on the Han River," a period of rapid economic growth after the Korean War, which helped South Korea become a developed country and a global economic power.

As a global innovation leader in green and environmentally friendly technology, South Korea is also a natural role model for Indonesia to achieve the zero emissions target.

"I hope our collaboration can improve green investment in Indonesia, including through the development of the electric vehicle industry ecosystem and the renewable energy industry," Marsudi said.
