Jakarta (ANTARA) - Newly inaugurated President Prabowo Subianto has stressed the need for courage to address the problems and challenges facing Indonesia.

"When confronted with difficulties, we must meet them with bravery," he said after taking the oath as Indonesia's president on Sunday during a plenary session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR).

"Let us gather and unite to find solutions to our problems," he added.

Prabowo highlighted that Indonesia continues to experience numerous instances of illicit activities, such as collusion and corruption, which could jeopardize future generations. These issues involve political and government officials, as well as unethical business people.

"There are too many leaks from our budget. This is the reality," he stated.

He also pointed out data regarding people living below the poverty line and children lacking nutrition and school supplies. "As political leaders, we should not be too pleased with the statistics," he remarked.

Despite Indonesia being a G20 country and the 16th largest economy in the world, Prabowo emphasized the need to be aware of the broader picture of the nation's condition.

"Let us recognize reality. We can take pride in our achievements, but we should not be too satisfied. We must acknowledge the challenges and suffering of our people," he said.

He invited all segments of society, including education leaders, religious leaders, businesspeople, political leaders, youth, and students, to confront these challenges together.

Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka took their oaths of office for the 2024–2029 term during the MPR plenary session at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Sunday.

A total of 709 MPR members witnessed the inauguration, which was also attended by national figures, political party leaders, and representatives from friendly countries.
