We will prioritize the interests of the Indonesian people above the interests of all groups, let alone our personal interests.Jakarta (ANTARA) - Newly inaugurated Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto underlined his commitment to continue prioritizing the interests of the people over the interests of groups.
In his inaugural speech after being sworn in as the 8th President of Indonesia at the Nusantara Building in the Senayan legislative complex here on Sunday, he said that he and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka will dedicate their lives to the interests of the nation.
"We will prioritize the interests of the Indonesian people above the interests of all groups, let alone our personal interests," he affirmed.
The commitment was made considering the Indonesian people's long and hard struggle through various challenges to achieve independence
"We understand and we know that our independence was not a gift. Our independence was obtained with great sacrifice," Prabowo noted.
Therefore, he said that he will uphold the oath he has taken as best he can, as mandated by the Constitution.

Prabowo, 73, and Gibran, 37, took the oath of office for the 2024–2029 term during a plenary session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) at the Nusantara Building.
Wearing suits and traditional Betawi cloth, they took the oath on the holy book of the Quran.
"By Allah, I swear to fulfill the obligations of the President of the Republic of Indonesia as well as possible and as fairly as possible, uphold the Constitution and implement all laws and regulations as honestly as possible, and serve the nation and the country," Prabowo said, reading his oath.
Gibran took the oath as Vice President next. Afterward, both signed the Inauguration Minutes.
At least 709 of the 731 members of the MPR witnessed the oath-taking.
The plenary session of the MPR was also attended by national figures, political party leaders, and representatives of friendly countries.
At least 20 head of state level officials and 18 ministerial level officials joined the inauguration ceremony.
