Jakarta (ANTARA) - Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman has informed that five international dairy companies from Qatar, Brazil, the United States, and Vietnam are keen to invest in Indonesia.

"There are five companies. One from Qatar and two from Brazil. If I am not mistaken, America and Vietnam as well," he said in Jakarta on Monday.

To accelerate the realization of investment in the food sector, Sulaiman will meet the Vietnamese ambassador to further discuss an investment plan for dairy processing on Friday (November 1, 2024).

According to the minister, investors may use the land in Central Sulawesi, Kalimantan, and Merauke to build their factories.

"We have a lot of land and we give them choices," he said.

His ministry will coordinate with the related ministries/institutions to ensure that investment in the dairy processing industry can be realized in Indonesia.

"Let us not make it difficult for investors. They should feel comfortable investing in Indonesia. The key is to provide comfort to investors, especially in the agricultural sector, we will oversee their entry," Sulaiman explained.

Earlier, the ministry clarified that it has no plans to import 1.8 million tons of milk from Vietnam to support the Free Nutritious Meal Program initiated by President Prabowo Subianto.

In a statement released on Sunday, head of the ministry's public relations and public information bureau, Moch. Arief Cahyono, confirmed that the ministry has no plans to carry out milk imports.

Rather, it has invited investors from Vietnam to build a dairy industry in the country, he said.

"Indonesia does not plan to import 1.8 million tons of milk from Vietnam. The policy initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture is to invite investors from Vietnam to build a dairy industry in Indonesia to increase national milk production, not to import dairy products," Cahyono emphasized.
