"As a ministry, an executive presidential aide, we are determined to ensure that all citizens benefit from all policies that are focused on the welfare of the nation and the state," he told Commission XIII of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Thursday.
Regarding human rights, he said that the government needs to focus on three primary tasks, namely respecting human rights, protecting human rights, and ensuring the fulfillment of people's human rights.
He then underscored that the government has the responsibility to protect residents from malnutrition and alleviate illiteracy.
The minister further said that for the next half a decade, his office will work to ensure the on-point implementation of human rights-related policies to help those in need.
During the meeting with the DPR, Pigai explained that his ministry has not prepared programs for its first 100 days. Instead, it is aiming to implement five-year programs and plans, including the establishment of an international-level university of human rights.
"I want to uphold human rights throughout Indonesia," he affirmed.
Earlier, on October 21, 2024, Pigai said that his ministry will require a budget of over Rp20 trillion (around US$1.3 billion) to advance human rights in Indonesia through physical and non-physical development measures.
"I am able to advance (human rights). I was a field worker in human rights issues. So, do not underestimate my capacity," said the former commissioner of the National Commission on Human Rights.
