Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto promised Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to attend the 2025 Leaders' Retreat.

"I have said that I will attend next year's Leaders' Retreat in Singapore at a time and place agreed upon together," Prabowo remarked after a meeting with Wong at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday.

The Leaders' Retreat is held annually by the governments of Indonesia and Singapore to discuss bilateral cooperation in various sectors as well as developments at the regional and global levels.

Last April, the Leaders' Retreat was held in Bogor between the 7th President of Indonesia Joko Widodo and former Singaporean prime minister Lee Hsien Loong.

During the retreat, the two leaders discussed efforts to intensify cooperation in politics and defense, economy, food security, socio-culture, and education.

Welcoming the 2025 Leaders' Retreat, President Prabowo is optimistic that the meeting between leaders of the two neighboring countries will strengthen the increasingly close relations between Indonesia and Singapore, which will also have a positive impact on the Southeast Asian region.

"We continue to be determined to improve the relationship between Singapore and Indonesia to be closer and more beneficial for both countries and for the Southeast Asia region," Prabowo stated.

Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong looks forward to President Prabowo's presence to follow up on further cooperation and discussions between the countries.

"I look forward to welcoming you to Singapore in the near future to continue our conversations at our annual Leaders' Retreat, which Singapore will host next year," Wong remarked.
