Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) plans to reactivate several drilled wells in East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), to fulfill the clean water supply needs of victims of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption.

"We will reactivate unused drilled wells," BNPB Head, Suharyanto, stated during a press conference to discuss the handling of the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption on Thursday.

Currently, his side is teaming up with the East Flores district government to install water pumps in the drilled wells.

Meanwhile, he noted that the state-owned electricity company PLN is ensuring the provision of electricity to distribute the water at the earliest.

He highlighted that the BNPB has also deployed several water tankers at each evacuation location during the process of reactivating drilled wells.

"We are pushing for the reactivation as soon as possible because water is an urgent need for those victims in evacuation camps," Suharyanto stressed.

BNPB's Disaster Mitigation Operations Control Center noted that the evacuation locations were spread across six points in the districts of East Flores and Sikka.

In East Flores, the evacuation sites were located in Lewolaga Village, with 693 people; Hokeng Village, 639 people; and Konga Village, 1,372 people.

Meanwhile, in Sikka District, some 1,790 refugees were accommodated at three evacuation locations provided by the government.

"On the fourth day, the handling of refugees has been relatively good, including the need for cooking utensils which are being completed," Suharyanto remarked.
