Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government has assigned several teachers to educate children affected by the recent eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).



These children are currently residing in evacuation centers in East Flores and Sikka districts.



"We must not allow these children's education to be disrupted," Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Suharyanto, said at a press conference on the handling of the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption on Thursday.



The agency has prepared emergency tents that will serve as classrooms for carrying out educational activities for children.



According to him, the teachers have been drawn from the Education Service at the provincial and district/city levels.



"The relevant ministry will provide the technical details," he added.


Several children who are affected by the Mount Lewotobi eruption are taking part in trauma healing services from volunteers at the Lewolaga Village Refugee Post, East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, Wednesday (6/11/2024).

As per the BNPB's Disaster Mitigation Operations Control Center, at least 10,295 people or 2,734 families have been affected by the disaster.



They are residents of several villages in three sub-districts, namely Ile Bura, Titehena, and Wulanggitang.



Although it did not provide details on the number of school-age children affected by the disaster, the BNPB confirmed that it has established proper evacuation sites at six locations in East Flores and Sikka districts.



In East Flores, 693 people have been taken to the evacuation site in Lewolaga village, 639 to Hokeng village, and 1,372 to Konga village.



Meanwhile, in Sikka district, there are a total of 1,790 refugees at three evacuation locations provided by the government.



Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted at 2:48 local time on Monday (November 4, 2024). The eruption, as recorded on a seismogram, had a maximum amplitude of 17 millimeters and a duration of approximately three minutes and five seconds.



The eruption caused nine deaths and injured 63 persons, with 31 sustaining severe injuries and 32 suffering minor injuries.



At 11:15 local time on Thursday, the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki monitoring post recorded another eruption with a height of five thousand meters from the peak.
