During his term, Seventh President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) named Agus Joko Pramono, Ahmad Alamsyah Saragih, Djoko Poerwanto, Fitroh Rohcahyanto, Ibnu Basuki Widodo, Ida Budhiati, Johanis Tanak, Michael Rolandi Cesnanta Brata, Poengky Indarti, and Setyo Budiyanto as candidates for the KPK leadership.
"The DPR has received a green light to assess the names and select five of them for the president to induct," Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Penitentiary Affairs Yusril Ihza Mahendra stated in Jakarta on Friday.
He noted that the government is aware that Article 30 of Law No. 30 of 2002 on the KPK stipulates that the entire selection process of the commission's leadership should be concluded within six months, starting from 14 days of the candidate's registration.
This signifies that the government should complete the entire process by December this year.
Mahendra further remarked that President Prabowo understands that a head of state can only once forward the names of KPK leader candidates to the DPR, according to a ruling by the Constitutional Court in 2022.
The coordinating minister made these remarks following a letter recently received from the DPR, which inquired whether President Prabowo would drop the names forwarded by former president Jokowi, establish a new selection committee, and name new candidates.
On November 5, KPK Deputy Chairman Nurul Ghufron highlighted that the president wields the authority to shelve the names proposed for the commission's leadership for the 2024-2029 term.
"As the ruling president, Mr. Prabowo has the right to drop the names because he has received the presidency baton. Thus, he wields the authority to either proceed with the candidates or not," he remarked in Jakarta.
